Being listed 163 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time, Prince's 5th studio album, 1999, became his breakthrough album back in 1982. All of his album covers were unique in a certain way either focusing on art or fashion and also a hint of politics. The cover of the album features details from the front cover of his previous album, Controversy namely the eyes and the "Rude Boy" pin in the "1999", the jacket studs in the "R" and the smile in the "P". The "1" in Prince contains the words "and the Revolution" written backwards, both recognizing his backing band and foretelling the next four exploding years of his career.
